Dr. David Stager, Jr. is a highly respected ophthalmologist with a passion for providing exceptional eye care and improving the lives of his patients. With over three decades of experience in the field, he has established himself as a trusted authority in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus.

 

Dr. Stager’s journey in medicine began in Dallas, where he grew up and attended St. Mark’s School of Texas. He went on to complete his undergraduate studies at Southern Methodist University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and Cum Laude. Driven by a thirst for knowledge and cultural enrichment, he furthered his education by studying European history in Oxford, Spain, and Paris.

 

Continuing his pursuit of medical excellence, Dr. Stager earned his medical degree and completed his residency in Ophthalmology at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. It was during this time that he developed a profound interest in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, ultimately leading him to pursue a fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., under the guidance of Dr. Marshall M. Parks, a pioneering figure in the field.

 

Throughout his career, Dr. Stager has actively contributed to the advancement of ophthalmology. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Retina Foundation of the Southwest and continues to collaborate closely with nonprofit eye research institutes. Dr. Stager’s commitment to making a difference extends beyond his local community, as he has served as a Past President and Board member of the Lighthouse for Christ Mission, a charitable ophthalmology hospital in Mombasa, Kenya.

 

Dr. Stager’s expertise and dedication have been recognized by various professional organizations. He is a member of esteemed associations such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS), the Texas Medical Association (TMA), the Texas Ophthalmological Association (TOA), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the Dallas Pediatric Medical Society. His exceptional contributions to the field led to his acceptance into the American Ophthalmological Society in 2013.

 

As a testament to his commitment to research and education, Dr. Stager has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and contributed chapters to ophthalmology textbooks. He has also been invited as a guest lecturer in the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, sharing his knowledge and expertise with fellow professionals globally.

 

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Stager is actively involved in teaching and mentoring the next generation of ophthalmologists. He serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he imparts his knowledge and experience to aspiring medical professionals.
